Port Klang

Ranked 21st among the world container ports in 98 then 14th in 99. Attained world class reputation in terms of size, facilities and service.

 

Obtained double digit growth since 90s, recorded 2.5 million TEUs, up over 40 percent from previos year largy attributed to transshipment traffic ( over 38 percent of total traffic ).

The Future

by 2000, Port Klang would handle over 75 million tones of cargo, reaching over 80 million by 2010.

 

Klang Container Terminal (KCT) ranked highest share of container throughput at 24.4 percent compare to Klang Port Management (KPM) at 19.7 percent.

 

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) has attracted more cargo to Port Klang. Port Klang Community System (PKCS) build on SMK-Dagang.Net helps to link port users with other permit issuing government agencies. For example, electronic system for the port FREE Commercial ZONE (FCZ-EDI) allow users to submit their free zone declarations electronicaly.

 

Port Klang is divided into three areas of operations, namely North Port, South Port and West Port.

 
   

North Port

North Port Consists of 18 berths stretching a total quay length of 4 kms. Covering an area of 248 hectares. operates 426 metres of berth for containers.

 

Gazetted as a free commercial zone since April 93 under the administration of Klang Port Authority.

 

Provides terminals for container, breakbulk, liquid bulk and dry bulk cargo. Activities carried out

South Port

With its 10 berths, cover over 48 hectares. Handle mainly liquid and dry bulk cargo and domestic trade.

 

Allowing vessels up to 40,000 displacement tonnes to berth.

 

West Port

Situated on the island Pulau Indah, expanded to 14 berths, then 18 by 2005. Gateway for handling iron, steel, sugar, cereals, fertilisers, petrochemicals, cement, LPG, and containerised cargo.

 

Empty Container Handling Frontlifts enable it to achieve optimum Fastport performance and high productivity efficiency.
